Parenting is a hard job. The Welcome Baby Playgroup program provides an opportunity for parents and their children to receive interaction as well as provide tools for parents to feel more confident and ready for parenthood. Studies have shown that there are many benefits to both the parent and child who participate in playgroups. Some of these include: providing opportunities for parents to share experiences, enhance self- esteem, validation of parenting skills, feelings, and ideas, new points of view, social support, and a sense of belonging. Likewise, playgroups provide children with a stimulating environment and strengthen social skills while they have fun playing and learning with their parents and peers. Participating in playgroups will be an invaluable experience for everyone involved.

If we do not have a playgroup in your area and would be interested in starting a playgroup, please contact us at 801.399.5584, or email us at dannis@uwnu.org  and we can help you get started!

See what we do every week:

On Monday, the kids learned about meals and what's healthy for them. We read from the book "The Hungry Caterpillar". For crafts, we had the kids cut out pictures of the food the caterpillar ate from the book and glue it in order on the paper. Afterwards the kids liked playing with playdoh, letter blocks, and house.

On Tuesday, the kids had the chance to play with the new kitchen set that Durrell purchased over the weekend. The kids loved it and had so much fun using the play phone that came with it. The kids also got to draw on the white board and play all day.

On Wednesday, the kids were taught about mothers and the different ways to show love to them. The children made cards using stamps. One of the kids built an amazing structure using wooden blocks. The kids also loved playing together and getting to know some of the other kids and used toys as a gateway to talk to one another.

On Thursday we had a big class! We even had a few new kids come in too! It was so nice seeing the kids learn the alphabet and how to write the letters. They had a blast playing together with the kitchen set and playing with chalk and eating popsicles outside at the end!

On Friday, the kids had free play. The parents of the children attended a parents meeting taught by Durrell. The kids had a lot of fun having free reign with all the toys and games. They seemed to really like it at playgroup, I only hope they'll keep coming when the school year starts.
Parents, please attend playgroup with your children, it's free! We meet on Monday's and Wednesdays at the United Way building. And on Tuesday's and Thursday's at Imagine Jefferson. We have playgroup from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. during those days. Hope to see you there!
